On a recent trip to Germany I made a new connection with an smart guy called Matt Dippl, who is in a similar industry to myself. We got to talking about websites and how they are constantly evolving and changing on so many levels, which got me thinking about my own website and how long it was since I last upcycled it.
I asked Matt to give my site a look over and instead of telling me all the places where it was not working he gave me a prime example of some sites that were working a lot better than my own.. and that was my light bulb moment. I could see my own website was nowhere near as good as I wanted and needed it to be, which for someone who designs websites for a living was a massive no no.
And so I faced a choice, should I go in and use what was there already, tidy up a few pages, give them a new lick of paint as it where, or should I do what I knew needed to be done.. rip it up and start again! There was no choice really… I immediately took the site offline and set about creating a site that would be a prime example of the kind of design standards I wanted to live up to for my business and for my clients.
But its not just us web designers who should be constantly looking to keep our websites fresh and new, all businesses that wish to have an online platform that generates leads and brings in more sales should also be looking to keep ahead of the curve.. Here are my “Three Reasons To Redesign Your Website At Least Every Two Years”.
